The article deals with the presentation of a research that aims to contribute to the teaching of science. The objective was to observe and reflect on the construction and methodological development in the teaching-learning process of the elective curricular component in the area of natural sciences and its technologies applied to high school in a state school in the city of Araguaína-TO. The subjects of the research were the students of the first grade of High School in the morning shift. In this research with a qualitative approach, students were divided into three groups, whose objective was the development of subtopics for the following themes: Science and Technology in the face of the pandemic; the use of water in food production and the use of pesticides in agriculture, where they were called learning maps. After data collection, it was possible to observe, as a result, that the intervention and application of innovative methodologies favored the construction of knowledge by stimulating the involvement of students in challenges and tasks. It was also found that the students were able to create their own ideas and build knowledge through their research, thus obtaining a teaching with a learning characteristic with scientific literacy.
