Narratives about the experience of living in three housing complexes of the Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida in Belo Horizonte

The article aims to analyze the experience of living from the perception of residents of three sets of the Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida (PMCMV) - Água Marinha, Hematita and Granada - located in the northeast region of Belo Horizonte. As a starting point, the trajectory of social housing policy in the country is revisited in order to contextualize the PMCMV, its genesis and characteristics. The program is also placed in the context of the municipal social housing policy. The methodology adopted, in a qualitative approach involved a systematic literature review, documentary surveys and semi-structured interviews with 21 residents. Despite the scope of the PMCMV, its design and implementation present problems that reproduce aspects of previous programs, notably the Banco Nacional de Habitação. The narratives of residents point out to positive aspects of living in residential, but reveal difficulties in accessing urban infrastructure and services, problematize the typology and quality of units, empty properties and irregular occupations, and coexistence problems- permeated by tensions and conflicts.
